This six-year-old has collected more than 1,000 jars of jam and peanut butter — to make sure her classmates never go hungry.
Soon-to-be first grader Eva Chapman donated the 1,033 PB&J ingredients to nine schools, including her own Spruce Creek Elementary School in Port Orange, Fla., according to a report.
“I’m very proud of her. She has a huge heart,” her mom, Nicole Chapman, told ABC’s Good Morning America.
The sweet kid started her food drive in mid-April — and strangers from as far as Canada have donated jars for the cause.
“It’s just been such a wonderful outpouring of support,” Chapman said. “For whatever reason, this really just touched people and moved them.”
The project began when Eva noticed a child she went to school with didn’t have a great home life. She worried about what her friend would eat over the summer when she didn’t have the school’s free or reduced hot lunches.
So her mom helped her launch the collection, with Eva aiming to gather a whopping 10 million jars for PB&Js.
While she hasn’t reached her ambitious goal, she’s still thrilled with the outcome, her mom said: “She can feel that sense of pride and accomplishment and I think more than anything else, she’s happy that she was able to help other kids.”
