A 99-year-old army veteran, Captain Tom Moore, has raised over 1 million pounds ($1.2 million) for the NHS (National Health Service).

His fundraising webpage on the Just Giving portal says that Captain Moore is aiming to walk 100 lengths of his 25-meter (82-foot) back garden, at a rate of 10 laps a day.

He is attempting to do this before he turns 100-years-old at the end of the month.

Moore had initially attempted to raise half a million pounds but his cause gained much attention and a surge in donations. Over 70,000 people had contributed to his fundraising page as of Tuesday, April 14, with the total approaching 1.5 million pounds ($1.8 million).

According to the bio posted on his fundraising page, Moore was born and brought up in Keighley, Yorkshire.

He went on to enlist in 8 DWR (145 RAC) at the beginning of the war and in 1940 was selected for Officer training.

Many elderly citizens are being cheered across the country in their attempt to battle the pandemic.
