Looking to get cozy with a Babe? You’re in luck.
A South Carolina farm animal rescue service is seeking “piggy cuddlers” to help socialize 100 rescue swine so they can find a forever home, per a recent Facebook post.
The want ad for swine snugglers — posted Jan. 23 by Cotton Branch Farm Animal Sanctuary — invites ham-anitarians to socialize their 100 “adoptable residents so they can move into out adoption program with ease.” The potbellied pigs were part of a group of 550 oinkers that were rescued from a horrific hoarding situation in Kentucky.
To help prep the rehabilitated porkers for their loving homes, emotional support humans will be required to give “belly scratches, cookies, and even just talk to them,” per the ad.
Fortunately, these special swine don’t require too much socialization. Cotton Sanctuary executive director Evan Costner told WTLX news that if people “spend about an hour at a time with them three times a week, within a month, they’re generally totally ready to be adopted.” He adds, “they’ll be rolling over for belly rubs.”
The advert appears to be resonating. “I would love to help! I had a potbellied pig for over 13 yrs — she was the absolute best,” one pig-lover posted. “My dream job,” added another.
And adoptees shouldn’t be afraid of bringing home the bacon as potbellies are “much quicker to house train than a dog,” says Costner. “As long as you have about a quarter-acre of space for them, a good-sized yard for them to enjoy, they’re fine.”
So far, 400 of the original 550 rescues have already found a forever home.
