Now he looks like a normal toddler, but this English boy nearly died after a severe allergic reaction covered his body in blisters.
Doctors initially thought three-year-old Joel Greaves had an extreme case of chickenpox after his mom brought him to the hospital covered from his head to his toes in sores.
But they soon realized he actually had Steven’s Johnson Syndrome, a rare skin condition caused by a reaction to a medication or infection that can be deadly.
“We were left terrified as doctors battled to save our little boy,” his 32-year-old mom, Tammy, told Caters News Agency. “Doctors had no idea if he was going to survive as one-in-five die from the condition, but we just had to hope and pray he’d pull through.”
Greaves spent five days in the intensive care unit and was later transferred to the burn unit, where his entire body was wrapped in bandages for three weeks.

She was “terrified” her son’s skin would be permanently damaged and felt a wave of relief when they took off the bandages in December and his smooth baby face was back.
It’s been a long journey back to normal for Greaves.
“It was like having a newborn baby all over again. He couldn’t eat, walk or talk properly,” Tammy told Caters.
But as of last month, he is back to normal — even rebuilding his “special bond” with his twin brother, Louis, who was devastated while he was in the hospital.
“I’m so proud of how far he has come. Looking back I can’t believe how close we came to losing him,” Tammy said.
