Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water bottle.

Contigo recalled lids for 5.7 million children’s water bottles over “potential choking hazard” nearly six months ago — and now they’re scrapping the replacements spouts because of the same issue.

The water bottle manufacturer issued the recall notice Wednesday for the Contigo Kids Cleanable Water Bottles on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website. “The water bottle’s clear silicone spout can detach, posing a choking hazard to children,” writes Contigo of recalling the recall.

The company has received a total of 427 reports of the clear silicone spout disengaging — and becoming lodged in children’s mouths in 27 of the cases.

The affected model — of which 5.7 million units were sold nationwide from April 2018 to June 2019 — comes in 13-, 14- and 20-ounce sizes and has a black base and cover, according to the notice.

Anyone in possession of one is “urged to stop using the recalled water bottles and the replacement lids provided in the previous recall, take them away from children, and contact Contigo for a free water bottle,” per the notice. They add that “consumers who received replacement lids in the previous recall should contact Contigo for the new water bottle.”
