How’s this for fate?
An adorable baby lamb was born on 2/2/22 with five legs at a farm in England in an extremely rare set of circumstances, Chronicle Live reported.
And there’s even more kismet behind the extra-limbed lamb.
“Also if you check that, it was [born on] a Tuesday, so all the twos,” Heather Hogarty, part-owner of Northumberland’s Whitehouse Farm, told the Chronicle. “We’ve looked it up as well, to be born with a fifth leg, it’s actually one in a million.”
But the extra miniature appendage could ultimately spell out baaaaad news for the cute and unnamed animal, one who was born into a set of triplets.
“You could see it as soon as it was born, it’s on the front left side so it’s just another leg that comes out of the shoulder . . . We’re just keeping an eye on this one at the minute, so it might have to have the leg removed,” she said.
Farm owner Heather Hogarty said the baby lamb may be able to keep its fifth leg if it doesn’t present a health concern. Iain Buist/Newcastle Chronicle“We think as long as it is going to live a normal life, we will just keep it.”
Hogarty has some experience in the extra limb category thanks to Quinto, an April Fool’s Day born lamb with five legs — this one beneath her stomach — who graced her farm almost a decade ago.
“They are the only two odd things we’ve had here, and we’ve been open to the public for 25 years now,” Hogarty said, explaining that Quinto had her extra leg removed and went on to live a normal and happy life.
“It is unusual, but animals having something a bit different does happen — we get many animals born with disabilities, but you don’t see them as often as sadly they get put down.”
The no-name critter is anything but shy about its differences. The little lamby was seen baa-ing, smiling and drinking bottled milk from a little toddler visiting the farm.
