A 20-year-old social media influencer apologized after a series of old racist and sexist tweets resurfaced Sunday.
Kelvin Peña, who goes by “Brother Nature” or “deer whisperer” online, turned his Twitter account private after social media users uploaded screenshots of his posts from 2011 and 2012. His tweets included: “Jay Z look like a monkey,” “Heil Hitler” and “White Power.”
In another post from 2011, he wrote, “When I grow up I wanna be like Chris Brown. So if my girlfriend tried to look through my phone while driving I can choke and punch her.”
He then returned his Twitter account to public with an apology.
“I started using twitter when I was 12 years old, I was very impressionable and was seeking attention,” Peña wrote. “I am sorry to all of the people that I offended and have let down. I apologize for 12-year-old Kelvin and take total responsibility for my words. Everyone changes, everyone learns, everyone makes mistakes.”
Peña, who has more than 3 million followers on his Instagram and Twitter accounts, came to internet fame in 2016 after posting videos of himself playing with deer. He continued to post photos and videos with wildlife and became known online as “Brother Nature.”
