A gig worker has gone viral for his heartbreaking plea that delivery service customers should tip better.

“Yo, I wish people knew what it was like to deliver for Uber Eats, Postmates, DoorDash, all these companies,” Smithson Michael said in the video, uploaded to his TikTok handle @deliveryguy100. “I just spent an hour driving around for a $1.19 tip.”

Just a bit more, he goes on, would make a huge difference, at least for his morale.

“I mean, would it hurt y’all to tip us, throw us $5?” he pleaded from his car, his mask pulled to the side, exposing his tear-stained face. 

He goes on to detail just how difficult it is to make a sustainable income working for the various food delivery service apps.

“I got $1.19 tip and $2 from the app. What’s that?” he continued. The answer: less than he actually needs to pay his expenses. 

“That’s not even enough to cover gas. How am I supposed to survive like that?” he asked in the clip, which has racked up more than 15,000 comments and 1.1 million views since being uploaded earlier this month.

The answer, tragically, is that that’s no way to survive.

“Homeless. I’m there,” he admitted. “Everything fell apart on me. I haven’t been able to sustain myself, provide for myself. And these are essential services.”

The video is hashtagged #helpme and #ubereatsdriver.

“I just wish people knew what it was like,” he said in conclusion. “I wish people understood what it was like to drive for these services.”

“Say it with me,” reads the most upvoted comment on the clip. “PEOPLE DESERVE LIVABLE WAGES & DONT ORDER IF YOU CANT TIP.”

Another viewer took pity on Michael, but said that, ultimately, it is the companies themselves — not the customers — that really need to be held to account.

“I always tip well but let’s be real.. Corporations are to blame.”

In response to a request for comment, Uber Eats told The Post it is unable to identify the delivery person in the Uber system and offered a link to more information on how fares, upfront pricing and tipping work.
