He hit the snack–pot.
Finance whizzes say that the secret to success is making money while you sleep, and one enterprising Ohio resident has devised a simple way to earn boatloads without doing any work — by purchasing two vending machines.
“Not bad at all for a week’s worth of non-work,” quipped Brandon Schlichter while counting his earnings in a clip with over 9 million views on TikTok, where he posts under the handle @investmentjoy.
The Ohioan has amassed nearly 4 million followers on the platform by sharing videos of his various businesses, which include arcade machines, laundromats and even a roofing company.

Schlichter bought two machines, including a soda vendor, for $1,400. TikTok / @investmentjoyIn one of his more popular ventures, Schlichter put his money where people’s mouths are and purchased two automated hawkers — one for soda and the other for snacks — for $1,400.
The entrepreneur said he buys the soda at 50 cents a pop and sells it for $1.
He then hires someone to stock the machine and harvests the earnings every week — both coins and bills — as seen in multiple viral clips.

Schlichter owns several businesses, including a laundromat and a roofing company. TikTok / @investmentjoyBy his count, the sugar-water dispenser alone made Schlichter $249 in one week, and on average brings in approximately $900 a month in passive income.
Those earnings are perhaps especially impressive given the “absolute freezing temperatures” of late, he said.
The sum might seem paltry given the inflation-ravaged economy, but vending machines are just one of many pies the soda-pop czar’s got his fingers in.
In a 2022 video, the cash collector counted out $1,000 that he made from all of his machines one day, adding in the comments that he raked in a whopping $100,000 in one month across all his enterprises.
Vending machines have become a go-to cash cow for the side hustle-obsessed.
TikToker Jade Davis claimed that she made $150 in just three weeks from a snack dispenser she bought for only $250 — a steal given that Doritos dispensers can cost thousands — and stocked it with treats from Sam’s Club.
Meanwhile, 31-year-old Marcus Gram claims he rarely works because he makes so much bank from his army of automated food kiosks.
In 2021, he reportedly made $300,000 from 25 machines.
