Of course, it doesn’t take a fashion degree to successfully slip into a pair of jeans. But when it comes to switching things up, the downtime fabric is not always at the top of one’s mind. Here are 10 new and tried-and-true approaches to denim, direct from the stars who got it right.

Rule No. 1: White on white is always a win. Alexa Chung proved it at the New York launch of her AG Jeans collaboration in January, pairing chalk skinnies from the line with an ivory Elizabeth and James blouse and two-toned Tabitha Simmons flats.
