Every bride dreams of a dress that will unveil the most beautiful version of herself — a fitting sentiment these days, as wedding gowns have never been more varied in silhouette, fanciful in embellishment, or just out-of-this-world special. Be it a blush ball-gown confection, a whimsical multitiered lace number or a pale-blue tulle gown paired with a traditional veil, not style rules apply. Except for those that suit the bride’s fancy.

Our Alexa Weddings cover story was photographed in Long Island City’s industrial-glam Metropolitan Building (4401 11th St.), built in 1909 as an electrical-parts facility and now a striking wedding and events venue. Its 12-foot-high ceilings, hand-painted hardwood floors, oversize windows and captivating antique chandeliers and settees can host ceremonies and receptions for up to 250 guests. Upstate brides might also consider one of its two sister properties, the Hudson Elks Lodge or the Philmont Mansion, both furnished with eclectic vintage pieces. Find booking details for all three properties at metropolitanbuilding.com. — Carrie Seim
