A Détacher
The always-thoughtful Mona Kowalska presented another well-crafted, story-weaving collection Sunday night, this time to the war drum tune of the Tokugawa shogunate (read: samurai!)
Most of the clothing appeared an adaptation of the kimono silhouette, although executed with enough restraint to avoid pantomime. Delicate floral and cherry blossom prints to rounded out the Japonism, and the models — each with ‘dos quaffed into slick top knots — marched in wooden wedges and platforms, eyes ablaze with pink face paint. It was a tasteful interpretive showing of the highest order.
