Badgley Mischka
Mark Badgely and James Mischka did a very smart thing. The duo that showed both their signature namesake line and their lower priced Mark & James collections at Bryant Park Tuesday separated them into two little shows, instead of one monstrosity.
The two collections had very different vibes, and in other seasons, combining the collections (which is how women dress) may have been the right thing.
Badgley Mischka’s offerings were an exercise in salable, celebrity-able red carpet dressing. These two exercised restraint in showing the four slightly different variations of their “Galaxy” dress — bead encrusted sheaths. These could have veered into the overdone, but they were just right. The same with their flower gowns and dresses — a little is enough in these cases.
The Mark & James collection is what the rest of us will wear every day — great mixed media shirts, jacquard leggings and jackets with attention paid to the shoulder details. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
Mad Men’s redheaded femme fatale Christina Hendricks was in the front row wearing black (what? No red, purple or emerald green — a travesty), as was 90210’s AnnaLynne McCord.
