NOT even super supe Cindy Crawford giving her best Versace could prevent last night’s Costume Institute gala from turning into Derelicte. Ironically, the party celebrated the Met’s new exhibit, “Model as Muse.”

There was no plot to assassinate the Prime Minister of Malaysia and David Bowie did not judge the walk-off, but Ashley Olsen did turn up in a Snuggie and Madonna officially hit her mid-life crisis as a barmaid at an interstellar saloon. (Madge, the Star Trek premiere is next week.)

At first glance, the gala’s honorary chair Marc Jacobs looked to have resurrected Sylvester as his date, but on second glance — Marisa Berenson? — no, it was co-chair Kate Moss, fresh from the Lido deck.

Fellow co-chair Justin Timberlake worked a Clark Kent look in glasses — the fan jury’s divided on this one — with Jessica Biel on his arm in Versace. Maybe he can jump on a treadmill and save Madonna from herself.

Fortunately Gisele got the memo about wearing short and with husband Tom made the prettiest pair at the ball.

Also practicing sanity were a host of Hollywood hotties in not-so-basic black, among them Kate Bosworth, Eva Longoria and Ciara, though others were pushing the glam Goth into bad Derek Zoolander territory.
