CARLOS MIELE SHOW
Carlos Miele is known for sexy, sexy, sexy dresses. While the runway was chock full of those, there was also the suggestion that New York’s favorite Brazilian designer is exploring another quality: restraint. As expected, there was a strong presence of long, swirling chiffon gowns exploding with vibrant greens, yellows and reds. But it was the charmeuse mini-dresses (one in red, the other in grey), featuring gentle swaths of tulle sweeping across the bust, that spoke volumes about Miele’s romance with architecture, construction and simplicity. He even managed to make fur flattering (no easy feat, trust) in the way of a cropped, sleek black rabbit fur vest. His exploration into new territory is admirable, but perhaps he should stay from the hand knitted sweaters that looked as though they were swallowing the poor models who had to, as they say, “work it.” Miele already has a formula that’s earned him a loyal following, but it’s nice to see that he’s not afraid to foray into new territory.
