In preparation for any big trip, I make sure to suss out (online) all the stores I’m planning on visiting while away — no, really, come on, 99 percent of my travels are adventures in international retail, didn’t you know? No point in trudging miles in foggy, damp London just to find that the cashmere-silk scarf and sweater shack has suddenly shuttered (alliteration — like it?).
Anyway, as I’m perusing websites in preparation for my imminent shopping jaunt through Western Europe, I discover that — hold the frickin’ presses — Dover Street Market, most definitely one of the coolest stores in London (it’s a multi-story mecca curated by Comme des Garcons owner and creative director Rei Kawakubo and filled to the brim with the coolest current and archive designer clothes, accessories, shoes, and miscellany around), has started to sell some cool pieces online and is willing to ship overseas.
(Sometimes I think to myself that even though there are no Topshops or Primarks in New York and the prices at the Margiela store in the West Village are mighty high compared to prices at the boutiques in Paris and London, still, yes, there must be a god.)
