Cynthia Rowley
Puffer and fringe.
Cynthia Rowley worked with two media for fall and exploited them in a collection of ways.
There were puffer coats (obviously), puffer boots, neck scarves, gloves and handbags. And some of these iterations were actually quite smart (why don’t we have warm puffer scarves?).
And then there was fringe — tops, skirts, coats, dresses — you name it. At one point it seemed as it the collection was an homage to Cousin It. But then, pardon the phrase, it grew on us.
Rowley is simultaneously launching an exhibit with Gagosian and selling pieces in his shop on Madison, which makes us think these chopped and shaped fringe-y pieces were sculptures, moonlighting as clothes, which is kind of smart.
As usual, FOC (friends of Cynthia) were numerous — Alan Cumming, Nigel Barker, Justin Theroux, James Frey, Maggie Rizer and so forth and so on.
