“Ever since I was a little girl, my fairy-tale ending involved a pantsuit, not a wedding dress,” best-selling author Jessica Knoll wrote in a recent essay for the Times. And for any woman who was once that little girl, there is Argent. Launched in 2016 by Eleanor Turner and Sali Christeson, the brand has one goal: suit up the modern careerist in bold colors and sharp cuts.

“The working woman is being ignored by fashion in general,” says Turner, 31. After stints at Tory Burch and J.Crew, Turner teamed with Christeson, 32, who came from tech and finance. In those environments, Christeson says, “dresses aren’t appropriate. And I enjoy power dressing.”

With no-makeup makeup the height of glam and sneakers preferable to heels these days, Argent fills the professional wardrobe gap. And its exuberant color palette sends a distinct message: confidence.

“We knew that we wanted [Argent] to be unapologetic for ambitious women,” Turner says, “and the thing that aligns most with that brand pillar is color.”

Pieces range from $198 for trousers to $328 for a blazer, with tops and accessories at lower price points. The whole line is made in the USA with high-performance materials that stretch, while holding you in and wicking away sweat. There are hidden pockets for iPhones and corporate IDs to keep you streamlined and hands-free.

Christeson says she had her aha moment for the brand while watching “Shark Tank” and feeling frustration that all the female judges tend to be bound up in tight dresses, while the men can jump around and test out products because they, of course, are wearing suits.

“To be restricted by dresses — I think that’s sending the wrong message,” she says. “Suits allow you to move more and do more.”
