Ashley Greene, the current face of DKNY, may have been decked out in crimson red at today’s show, but designer Donna Karan was definitely in a darker state of mind for fall.

Showing a collection that was mostly done in black, Karan balanced the line between tough and flirty with ease: Slim-fit peplum coats were trimmed in shearling, leather blazers topped off matching flouncy-hemmed skirts and embossed alligator sleeves toughened up a furry coat.

The overall vibe was minimal and sleek, much like her metal-trimmed clutches.

We favored the slouchy black and white leopard print sweater with a cat face emblazoned on the front, but it was Karan’s sampling of black cocktail frocks — namely a mini backless lace number — that captured the spirit of DKNY’s city girl ability to mix street and chic with ease.
