I bought “fashion frames” in college. My friends still rip on me, but nothing, EVEN 20/20 vision can blunt my fascination with eyeglasses. And when I see a funky optical, I cannot help but take a browse – even though I have no practical use for much in there. Which brings me to another point. There really aren’t that many worthwhile ones in the city.

But Silver Lining Opticians is a newly opened gem that I stumbled upon on Saturday. They only sell small emerging brands like Kame ManNen from Japan and Oliver Goldsmith from London….no Prada or Persols or D&G. Not unless they’re vintage, of course. They’ve got an amazing selection of unworn Balenciaga, Ray-Ban, Carrera etc.

With a mix of indie designers and amazing vintage, Silver Lining does for glasses what No. 6 did for togs.

Co-owned by a vintage collector, Jordan Silver and licensed optician Erik Sacher, the cozy shop has dark wood showcases, cool little swivel stools and a charming throwback quality.
