Fall continues to march to a boy-meets-girl beat with the fourth day of shows.

Victoria Beckham, fresh off a British award for designer of the year and the launch of a secondary line, gave her main line of body con outfits a sexy soldier spin. A sliver of a black dress got the trompe l’oeil treatment to look like a jacket and skirt with gold buttons and epaulets. Other dresses played with color blocking effects, some with contrasting elements of men’s polo shirts.

For her secondary line DKNY, Donna Karan also liberally borrowed from the boys. Her statement for fall started with the Beat generation and finished on a New York street: turtleneck, aviator coat, flirty peplum skirt, miles of black leg and a platform boot.

With leather emerging as a starring trend, this season was tailor made for a designer like Derek Lam, who is also creative director of Tod’s. Lam delivered one of the best collections so far with a sure hand, eclectic and sophisticated enough for the world-weary citizen: Bomber jackets and pencil skirts in white or black satin with tiny floral embroideries, the simple chic of a white lambskin dress, a paisley jacquard dress over an ochre shirt. Start the waiting list now for the white ecological shearling teddy bear coat.

Beauty Burst

Giulietta

At Giulietta, the make-up artists and hair stylists from Aveda created a look inspired by a 1960s Vogue fashion spread. A chic, slicked-back ponytail was amped up with dramatic, angular eyes and topped off with a heavy blush to give the models cheekbones that could seemingly cut glass.
