From Saint Laurent’s spectacular across from the Eiffel Tower to Giambattista Valli’s shimmery masks, Paris fashion week was lit. As a fan of all things sparkly, I was blissed to be there for it all. Sonia Rykiel fêted its 50th anniversary with Bananarama, Olivier Rousteing served up Balmain 2050 with blindingly bright iridescent looks and Marine Serre’s crescent-moon print established her as Paris’ newest design darling. Even quieter moments — gorgeous hooded coats at Valentino or Poiret’s revival runway show — shone bright like diamonds.

Flounce house
Fashion loves a reboot; this season, ruffles got their replay. Saint Laurent’s swirled across micro-mini ’80s-inspired frocks. Vivienne Westwood’s took flight in white bridal-inspired gowns. Over at Givenchy, they shimmered in a metallic disco dream.

Chic plastique
Life in plastic? Fantastic for fall. From newcomer Marine Serre’s punchy trenches and Balmain’s floor-length skirts to Maison Margiela’s hooded toppers, see-through is clearly a power trend. Style your underthings accordingly.

Feeling blue
Designers remixed shades of haute blue every which way during Paris fashion week: bold stripes at Louis Vuitton, embellished sequins and pearls at Elie Saab, and dreamy ombre at Off-White.

Turn coat
Coats for fall might seem obvious, but Paris designers re-imagined the wardrobe staple in the most exciting ways, from peplum puffers at Alexander McQueen to a mille-feuille of piled-on coats at Balenciaga. But Sacai’s mix-mastery of plaids and stripes? Truly groundbreaking.

Femme fatale
In this empowering era of #MeToo, celebrating the female form is decidedly en vogue. Loewe topped frocks with bras, while Nina Ricci offered oversize cone-shaped camisoles. Thom Browne’s shades-of-grey collection armored women with mink-trimmed busts.

Into the woods
Karl Lagerfeld has the market cornered when it comes to grandiose setups for his Chanel shows in the Grand Palais: rocket ships have launched, waterfalls have splashed. This season, a misty, tree-lined runway appeared, scattered with autumnal leaves. It set the mood for those cozy tweed-blanket looks and oversize bags his fans will be clamoring for come fall.

Glitter goals
Photo-filter app Kirakira’s sparkly #inspo filtered through many runways, but it peaked at Giambattista Valli’s floral-meets-mod show, where several models rocked full-on silver iridescent and rose-gold glitter masks. Do it for the likes, ya know?

Saddle up
Throwback fans, rejoice: Christian Dior is reviving the saddle bag (the purse in which Carrie Bradshaw famously stashed her emergency cigarettes). Maria Grazia Chiuri offered the silhouette with logos, beading or classic black. Giddy-up.

Fan girl
Elle Fanning traded her normal front-row seat at Miu Miu for a spot on the catwalk this season, opening and closing the show. Styled in a major beehive ’do and oversize outerwear, the actress-turned-model vogue’d like a pro.
