The stars were shining bright this week — from movie premieres to celeb-studded events, we saw a nonstop array of great dresses. Elle Fanning looked adorable in Gucci, while Lady Gaga slayed in Marc Jacobs. And to our surprise, Gwyneth Paltrow flopped in an aqua dress, along with a few other red-carpet mishaps. This actress proves the quality of her taste is on par with her comedic skills in this strapless blue Oscar de la Renta frock at the New York Film Festival screening of “The Martian.” The bust of the dress fits perfectly, and the flouncy skirt balances out the look.

Lady Gaga

Gaga goes for full Hollywood glamour in this Marc Jacobs look at the National Art Awards at Cipriani in NYC. The sunglasses and hot-pink shoes are the right accent to the (perfectly) over-the-top ensemble.

Elle Fanning

This starlet earns her style stripes in an outstanding Gucci dress at the Beverly Hills premiere of “Trumbo.” The floral straps and ornate detail of the dress are whimsical, while the dusty rose color looks great against Fanning’s skin tone.

Allison Williams

Williams looks breathtaking in an all white Monse dress at the Forevermark Celebration of “A Diamond is Forever” at Stephan Weiss Studios in NYC.

Gwyneth Paltrow

The Goop guru is usually a knockout on the red (or in this case, green) carpet, but this week she strikes out in an aqua-colored dress at the Environmental Media Awards at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Calif. The sleeve situation is hilariously awful, as is the way it’s constricting her arms. Try again, Gwynnie.

Iggy Azalea

It’s likely that Azalea’s stylist is playing a trick on her, because this dress is absurd on the rapper. The shape is overwhelming on her small frame, and the big black bow just looks silly at the Vogue China gala dinner in Shanghai.

Charlize Theron

Theron is another A-lister who usually churns out fab red-carpet looks, but this skintight gold dress is just far too snug on the actress, who hits Hong Kong for a promotion event.

Katie Holmes

Beam us up, Katie — so we can advise you against this “Star Trek” train wreck. On their own, the individual pieces are great, but all together, the actress looks like an extraterrestrial at the Night of Stars event at Cipriani Wall Street.
