Halston
Halston designer Marios Schwab is in an unenviable position.
As the designer of the Halston signature label, he may be an uber-creator (we’re still in the fence on that one), but he will always be overshadowed by the president of Halston Heritage, the lower priced line. Really, who can compete with Sarah Jessica Parker?
He made a valliant effort with his fall collection. Inspired by the fluidity of mercury and the movie “The Eyes of Laura Mars,” the collection stood firmly with its feet in two places — the 1970s of the original Halston era and the current fashion era where molded bodices and studded, jeweled details rule.
There was a lot in this collection — short, long, fitted, flowing with lots of bits in between. The epaulette theme, seen in one red dress with small epaulettes all over and three others with oversized ones wrapping the models’ bodies was pretty and well thought out. While the sculpted felt skull caps were striking on the models, the fact that one of the wearer’s eyes will be completely covered makes us question whether this will impair their vision. We’ve heard of doing a lot for fashion, but going blind seems a bit extreme.
