HAUTE LIST
Flips leave you flopped
IT’S a traveling bar, a place to store your credit card and keys, and even provides a little on-the-go massage. Watch out, Havaianas – there’ s a slew of new double-duty flip-flops looking to walk all over the competition.
Our favorites are the super-stealthy Flexflop ($32 at metrodiva.com) – thin slippers that fold in half and fit neatly into a pouch – and Supracor’s St. Tropez sandals (right, $60 at supracor.com), which promise to stimulate blood flow, enhance circulation and reduce foot fatigue with their ultralight honeycomb technology.
But the most ingenious ones of the season are Reef’s new Stash ($46 at piperlime.com) and Dram ($45 at piperlime.com). The Stash come complete with a secret pullout tray under the heel that’s deep enough to hold a credit card and keys. The Dram (in men’s sizes only, so order down) come with an encapsulated canteen in the heel – with a funnel and a screw cap – perfect for storing a large-size shot.
Just watch out for the sloshing sound as you walk.
No sweat
(no, really)
For those of you who insist on sweating during the summer – when sweating is particularly uncomfortable – here are a few options to ease the pain:
Ellesse purple Bora top ($70 at 800-ELLESSE) is woven with silver to give the shirt anti-odor, anti-bacterial and anti-static properties.
Ellesse teal Barea skirt ($50 at 800-ELLESSE) provides 50+ UV protection sewn right into the fabric.
Yogini Style yoga pants ($60 at yoginistyle.com) come with built-in underwear to prevent panty peek.
Nike Sports Essentials crew tee ($25 each at nike.com) is made with Dri-Fit, which wicks the sweat away from your body and sends it off into the world.
Obsessions of the week
* Leading lady locks: Hairstylist Mario Diab might not yet be on your radar, but A-listers with great hair have known about him for years. Diab is makeup artist Bobbi Brown’s personal hairstylist (and collaborator on her new book “Living Beauty”), an official advice-dispenser on Oprah.com, and stylist to Laura Bush, Salma Hayek and Vera Wang. He’s just opened his first salon – a 500-square-foot space in the SoHo Integrative Health building – so us plebs can get in on the action, too. Mario Diab Salon, 62 Crosby St.; (212) 226-6595.
* Going green: Famous green lips throughout history: The Grinch, Slimer and Oscar the Grouch. While the most surprising new lip gloss color may be green, they (sadly) don’t go on quite that pigmented. Instead, the near-invisible-when-applied emerald tints serve to enhance the natural rosy-pink undertones of your pout. Sexy stuff. Bourjois Fresh Minty lip gloss ($15.50 at sephora.com); Vincent Longo Cushion Lips SPF 20, right ($18 at sephora.com); MAC Tendertone lip balm SPF 12 in Shush, above ($14.50 at maccosmetics.com).
* Scents of summer: Capture the essence of backyard barbecues and romantic sunsets on the shore – or not. What does eau de summer smell like? These new fragrances have bottled the beach. We give them a whiff.
Calvin Klein’s Eternity for Men Summer eau de toilette ($50 for 3.4 ounces at sephora.com): Watermelon, spicy coriander, star anise and cedar wood layered with patchouli. Smells like: Buff, beautiful, sporty-but-sweet surfer guys hanging out on the beach at sunset.
Michael Kors Hawaii eau de parfum ($60 for 1.7 ounces at michaelkors.com): Citrusy clementine and orange essence, tropical pineapple and lush neroli over sandalwood and white amber. Smells like: The sexiest luau you’ve ever been to – smells good enough to eat, but not explicitly like food.
Tom Ford for Estée Lauder’s Azuree Soleil Eau Fraiche SkinScent ($50 for 3.4 ounces at esteelauder.com): This reinterpreted version of Estée Lauder’s 1969 scent features Tahitian gardenia petals, coconut and orange blossoms, with undertones of vetiver, sandalwood and myrrh. Smells like: Palm Beach animal-print-caftan-wearing ladies-who-lunch sipping cocktails by the pool on a balmy Florida afternoon.
Escada’s Sunset Heat eau de toilette ($50 for 1.6 ounces at department stores): Papaya, lemon, mango and pineapple top notes with floral, sandalwood and musk undertones. Smells like: Peachy, sweet high school summer night make-out sessions at sleep-away camp.
GapBody’s Island Hop body mist ($16.50 for 8.4 ounces at gap.com): A cocktail of coconut water, pineapple, hibiscus and white amber.
Smells like: Fruity drinks and spring-break escapades or weekends shopping Main Street in Southampton.
