Back in 1977, the German terrorist group Baader-Meinhof (Red Army Faction) planned to kidnap Karl Lagerfeld as part of a twisted plot to convince the government to free incarcerated members of their gang, reports today’s Guardian UK.

“Karl Lagerfeld was on our list, [along with] an underwear manufacturer and a few Frankfurt bankers,” convicted terrorist Peter-Jurgen Boock told The Guardian.

Lagerfeld, then the artistic director of Chloe, was considered an ideal target because he had, in years prior, amassed significant personal wealth and, more importantly, seemed to the group to be a symbol of capitalism, which they abhorred.
