It’s tulle time.

Sure, wunderkind Jason Wu created a lovely collection of day wear that featured some great coats, innovative paint spackled suits and jackets and amazing furry mohair pieces. These were expected.

But it is with evening wear where Wu stretched his wings, so to speak.

His medium was tulle and the foil was feathers — sometimes fully visible and sometimes subtly hidden under layers of tulle. The look was seemingly simple, yet unexpectedly complex, like noticing a hint of orange while eating chocolate.

Working with such a potentially voluminous fabric does have its drawbacks. It can get away from you, as it did Wu in a couple of instances, but overall, he managed to tame it.

Inspired by Irving Penn, the look Wu was aspiring to was perfectly captured in the last look — an embroidered strapless tulle confection on the range-y Karlie Kloss. It was like capturing a photograph.
