“Mirage” read Jeremy Laing’s run of show, a word as illusory and romantic as the young designer’s well-crafted and sophisticated spring collection.

Another, more concrete word that comes to mind: movement. Models layered in diaphanous fabrics — silk linen, chiffon, jersey — framed flowing silhouettes in a quiet palette of greys and earthen shades. But it wasn’t all slouch. Laing’s signature geometry manifested in the form of sharp tailoring at precise points of the body — crisp lines in the seams of a trench, perfect arches in the hollow of a jammer short. This balance of structure and shapelessness implied a process that began in reality but evolved in the abstract. A lovely “mirage” indeed.
