When all the world’s a red carpet, the challenges of designing a collection of dresses are slightly less stringent. Still, keeping a fresh perspective in this realm does require something.

At Marchesa, designers Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman and their young collection do seem to have that something. These women understand drama and what makes a statement.

Showing a 20-look presentation instead of a runway show, these were distinctive gowns. Feathers were used a trim and even dress material for a risque little cocktail number. Jeweled necklines and completely encrusted bodices were right. The show-stopper was a strapless gown with a black tulle bodice that melted to pure white as the fabric fell to the floor in a full skirt.
