MATTHEW WILLIAMSON
Matthew Williamson has reclaimed his crown as the king of color.
This British designer has gone through a rough patch here and there — growing pains — as he’s taken on other responsibilities (mainly designing for Pucci) and his vision has not been as clear as it was originally. With new backing from TSM, it seems Williamson’s vision has been refocused on what he does best — in-your-face colors and fashion which is not overt, yet still sexy.
Bright pinks and tangerines color this collection with gorgeous blues added in for good measure. The silhouette is super skinny slim and s-h-o-r-t. Short jackets are swingy, and manage not to be full. Williamson’s prints are where he is a master — particularly on his black-and-white optic print blazer, his blown-up Hawaiian print and his signature multi-color tie-dye.
Heavily beaded embroideries serve as accents on the cuffs and waist of brocade pieces. The edge came from the form-fitting black leather pieces, which, juxtoposed with the brights, were brilliant. Our fave accessories were the boldly jeweled breast-plate necklaces — beyond. It’s like seeing an old friend who has just gotten better with age.
