This year, if you heard the word “model” — or “supermodel,” since they’re interchangeable at this point — it became reflexive to think of Kendall Jenner or Gigi Hadid.

Yet models.com has revealed its female “Model of the Year” for 2015 and the glory goes to neither of the former reality stars, but to insider favorite Anna Ewers.

The 22-year-old German beauty was voted No. 1 by a group of 250 industry experts, including designers, photographers, casting directors and editors, and beat a shortlist of big-name models to the top spot. (Ms. Hadid was first runner-up, naturally, and Lucky Blue Smith scored first place in the men’s category.)

For Ewers, it’s an Internet accolade well deserved. Here’s why:
