Can Burning Man turn fashion on its head?

That’s what designer Rami Kadi proposed Tuesday at his spring 2019 couture show at Paris fashion week. The collection was inspired by the “the free spirit and creativity” of the annual Burning Man festival, resulting in some colorful, albeit wacky, garb.

Especially of note? Not the stream of sequined frocks or glittery bodysuits, but the headgear. According to Kadi, we should adopt the favorite accessories of every Burner: face coverings, masks and “hallucinating” headdresses.

And boy, did these offerings really run the gamut.

Rainbow-bright crowns worthy of the Vegas Strip? Check. A drippy crystal piece reminiscent of a medieval knight’s armor? Check. A metallic face shield that would make even Daft Punk jealous? Check. Or lastly, because why not, a larger-than-life extraterrestrial mask. You heard that right.

From the desert to the catwalks of Paris, take note that hiding your mug is now “in.”

Sounds like a trip, alright.
