Poor Peter Som. He found his own niche and then took on the extra job of designing the Bill Blass collection. It’s this second job, and the Blass parent company’s financial problems, that have to be giving him a headache. Unfortunately, it shows in his namesake collection for spring.

The little dresses and flowing djellabah-striped pieces were pretty enough. It’s just that there were clunkers. His day dresses were a bit dowdy. The sheer pants were not a good idea, but the colors and the shoes, especially the taffeta ruffle criss-cross ones, were inspired.

Som had a little star wattage in his front row — Maria Sharapova, Elizabeth Banks and a couple of Olympic gymnasts.
