AS the world’s largest department store, Macy’s is like a retail nation unto itself. While chances are you’ll find whatever you’re looking for, navigating the millions of square feet can be bit daunting. Here are some strategic shopping tips we’ve found useful at Macy’s Herald Square.

– Alisa Wolfson

* Restrooms: It’s worth a walk down to the Cellar floor where ladies can count on shorter lines than in women’s apparel.

* Elevators: Ding! If you’re waiting for a down elevator, we recommend getting in one that’s going up. Cars tend to fill up with package- and stroller-laden shoppers, leaving little room for little you. It will eventually go down.

* Entrances: The entrance to the Seventh Avenue building brings you right into the Men’s store, which is usually less populated than the Broadway building’s women’s fragrance entrance.

* Visitor Center: Located on floor one-and-a-half, this necessary pit stop is where store directories are stocked. No need to wait on line if the map is all you need – just grab one and go.

* Timing: We recommend shopping weekdays before lunchtime for the lowest tourist- and lunch-breaker quotient.
