She’s a bridal designer for her day job, but Reem Acra keeps plugging away at her ready-to-wear collection, which she showed at the Bryant Park tents Thursday afternoon.

Acra’s offerings were definitely more on the dressy side. Brocade, satin, charmeuse, taffeta and tulle were her media for dresses, skirts and jackets. Many of the looks were pretty, like a capelet covered with felt flowers over a satin tank and skirt, but some crossed the border into overdone.

This designer, who sent several versions of the same outfit down the catwalk, should realize that sometimes less is more and an abbreviated but concise collection is better received than a repetitive one. She should also pay attention to her models’ undergarments. Sheer tulle gowns need nude undergarments, not black lace.
