The eighties are back.

And not the cheesy, asymetrical haircut-wearing eighties of a bad Adam Sandler movie, but the ’80s that fostered such visionaries as Sonia Rykiel, Yohji Yamamoto, Marithe & Francois Girbaud and even Donna Karan.

Jose Ramon Reyes chose to take a sporty tack for his namesake collection, Reyes.

Setting the tone with boxy tops and skinny pants and skinny tops and boxy skirts, there was no mistaking where this designer was headed. He even cited Elle Macpherson’s neoprene swimsuit-clad Sports Illustrated cover as inspiration.

While the track pants re-imagined as tuxedo pants were complete clunkers, almost every dress was divine. Pin-tucked shifts, a utilitarian pocketed “kangaroo” dress, and, most of all, the scuba sheath and tank dresses were completely wearable.
