Young designers … They do their own thing and are out on a limb. They follow

the directional designers, and they’re called derivative. It’s a fine line they

walk, and sometimes fall off.

Jose Ramon Reyes is feeling his newness and the collection he showed at Industria Sunday noon definitely showed some signs of others.

That’s not to say his collection wasn’t good – there were definitely some bright spots and he’s showing growth as a designer. We just would have liked … more.

The blazers were oversized and boxy, which suddenly looked new. Some of his dresses, particularly the matte jersey tiered dresses were perfectly draped and tailored. The silk color block dress that closed the show was stunning in its simplicity.

And then there were the dresses that combined color blocking with pin tucking with lame bodices and multiple belts. Ugh. Keep it simple.
