Who needs Fashion TV when youâve got MTV? Turns out that fashion documentaries are big business for the ex-music channel. Tonight, following the rerun of True Life: Iâm going to Fashion Week, MTV premiered the Sean John Fall-Winter 2008 documentary If I were King starring Diddy.A couple of things we learned: Diddy is really earnest about his Sean John fashion line; His design team is kind of shockingly stylish and good-looking — these are people who get up every morning and put themselves together, which is nice, because, well, if you’ve ever seen fashion people at work you’d hardly believe what they look like (slobs, often). The breakout star of the show who we wish we could see more of, immediately please, is Panos Yiapanis (pictured), one of my personal favorite stylists (he’s kind of famous for a here-put-on-more-pieces-of-clothing styling m.o.) and oh my god, he’s so skinny, wan, calm and cool and his voice. He could be a hipster vampire in Hollywood. Please somebody give Panos a show.More things we learned — some gem quotes, straight from the Diddy’s mouth — after the jump.
My favorite quotes of the night:
“When you come to a sean john show, you wanna go to a motherf***ing circus.”
Re: Looks — “The last 10 to 15 things — yo what the f*** am I looking at here.”
“You think god is sending you so many messages when he ain’t even talking to you.”
Nian, producer: “Thereâs no Sean John show without tears; thereâs no Sean John show without people storming out and saying I quit.”
“Iâm no longer a phenomenon. This show is going to be a test to see if I deserve to have that cfda award on my mantle.”
“I have to find some fabrics that they donât think Iâm going to get â I have to find some fabrics, ones that a Narciso, a Zac, a Dolce & Gabbana, a Cavalli are looking at. Iâm talking about to die for sh**. The fabrication to me â Iâm gonna f*** their heads up.”
