Before he began his descent into functioning insanity, Tom Cruise was synonymous with one thing…sporting a wicked pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers. From Risky Business to Cocktail these frames became the toast from coast to coast.(though they’ve been iconic for over 50 years).

And as the 80’s return with a vengeance, so do the Wayfarers. Kiki Dunst and Mischa are fans. So am I.

For the last two years, I’ve been trying them on every time I pass a sunglass hut. I go in thinking they will somehow make me look tragically hip rather than just plain tragic. After 30+ attempts, I’ve embraced the fact that they just don’t suit me. Even my dear mother slapped my hand when I picked them up.

So I was pleased to see that the benchmark of casual cool, APC (131 Mercer St) has found a happy medium in the same vain. Their shades, which come in tortoise shell and black have a rounder, less severe silhouette that will flatter a broad range of faces. Yet they still capture the laid back spirit and style of the original.
