Simply Vera
Vera Wang took a break from working on her spring runway collection to tell us about her summer vacation, what she thought of “The September Issue” and what she’s buying for fall. For Fashion’s Night Out, Wang is co-hosting festivities at her Madison Avenue boutique from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with Michael George, Sylvia Weinstock and nutritionist Oz Garcia. After that, she’s heading over to her Mercer Street boutique from 8 to 10:30 p.m. with “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi. Here’s what she said:
NYP: How did you hook up with Kara DioGuardi as your guest?
VW: Kara and I met when she came to me to design her wedding dress. I watch “Idol” every week — I love the show!
NYP: Where did you go during your summer vacation?
VW: I went to Paris and to the South of France with my family.
NYP: Have you seen “The September Issue”? What did you think?
VW: I did see it. No one can understand the level of excellence that is demanded of someone who works there. Having been there for 17 years, I can’t imagine it’s changed that much.
NYP: Have you made any fall purchases?
VW: My new Givenchy studded leggings — and I am constantly buying T-shirts. They’re my staples.
NYP: What’s the one fall must-have?
VW: There is no piece that I treasure above all else. I adore a twisted T-shirt from Margiela as much as Junya Watanabe’s “conceptual wearable works of art,” a Prada wrinkled gold metallic mid-calf skirt as well as a Simply Vera top. It’s not only about price points, but design, style, attitude and how it’s worn! Like creative wardrobe building blocks, fashion can be freeing, fun, fast and fabulous.
