No matter what the red carpet event, Tadashi Shoji always seems to get some big celebrity in one of his dresses or gowns. With his track record we would expect his front row to be packed with celebs and his collection to be just jaw-dropping.

Interestingly, neither proved to be the case. He had a couple of celebs (Alfre Woodard, Sherri Shephard, Miss Jay) and his collection was pretty much a couple of ideas done in every variation.

There was dress after dress of tiered fabric, some with lace bits dropped in and some looking like fans, but the circular look was what he was after. Another thing Shoji worked was the lace over a flesh-y colored base, which is fine, but not exactly rewriting the rules of fashion. Perhaps that’s his allure — he’s safe.

Shoji admits to be influenced by aerial views from his travels in the past months. We’re wondering if tours of midwest crop circles were on his itinerary with all these circular ruffles.
