This spring, the beauty world is going over to the dark side.

Instead of bright, happy hues and pastel palettes, burgundy, wine and even oxblood lipsticks — typically viewed as “winter” shades — are all the rage. Miu Miu’s spring 2016 show kicked off the moody craze, with each model sporting a stained plum pout. By Monday night’s Met Gala, the trend was in full swing, with a crop of A-listers trying a range of crimson colors on for size.

Katy Perry took it to the max by showing up in what only Katy Perry could pull off — onyx lips. On the other end of the color spectrum, Rose Byrne opted for deep mauve with a hint of pink. Other stars, including Miranda Kerr, Brie Larson, Hailee Steinfeld and Rachel McAdams, settled for matte and glossy dark burgundies.

Even super-sweet Taylor Swift got in on the fun by switching up her signature classic red lip to a more “Goth” dark aubergine. The result was one of the night’s biggest beauty hits.

If you’re interested in trying the trend, but worried about looking like a vampire, swipe on Urban Decay’s Mirana — the shade works with multiple skin tones. Keep the rest of your makeup simple with sheer-coverage concealer, a dash of mascara and a highlighter on your cheeks — and you’re ready to pucker up.
