As she follows the yellow brick road in “The Wizard of Oz,” Dorothy catches a glimpse of green. Reflected in her brown eyes, the city’s vibrant, emerald green skyline paints a magical moment and transports moviegoers to a faraway fantasy.
Now, with Bulgari’s “Emerald City” necklace — inspired by the colors illustrated in this iconic scene — you can skip the golden path and go straight to your fairytale fix.
The necklace, which is anchored by a dazzling 21.49-carat emerald surrounded by diamonds (and more emeralds), is just one of the 187 pieces in Bulgari’s novel high-jewelry collection, Cinemagia. Unveiled in June 2019 on the island of Capri, the line celebrates the Italian maison’s love affair with the silver screen. Since the 1950s, Bulgari jewels have grabbed the limelight, starring in over 40 films and gracing countless red carpets, worn by stars from Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn to Nicole Kidman and Lupita Nyong’o.
The collection was not only inspired by Hollywood, but also by Italian craftsmanship and architecture. All of the pieces were handcrafted by Bulgari’s high-jewelry workshop in Rome, and most took more than 500 hours to make.
In fact, the “Action!” necklace, which pays homage to the invention of celluloid roll film in 1885, clocked in at over 800 hours.
The scene-stealing 32-carat pavé diamond necklace incorporates zirconium to create a striking black-silver, film-like sheen.
Or sail off to Neverland with the “Diamond Sails” necklace, which took more than 900 hours and is guided by a showstopping 10-carat diamond encircled by pearls — meant to capture the wanderlust of Tinker Bell and the rippling ship sails of “Peter Pan.”
With technicolor gemstones and blockbuster designs, the Cinemagia collection indeed invites every wearer to become a movie star.
