Tommy Hilfiger is gearing up for his carnival-slash-runway show Sept. 9 at Pier 16, but he’s got an even bigger extravaganza in the works: his daughter’s wedding dress. “We’ve already started,” Hilfiger tells Threads. “We’re looking at fabrics and lace from Italy and we have an atelier in Europe with a team working on it.” Ally Hilfiger, 31, just announced her engagement to boyfriend Steve Hash, and the couple is set to wed at her father’s estate in Greenwich, Conn.
Hilfiger is an expert collaborator — he also teamed with Gigi Hadid on a capsule collection and “The Girl” perfume, both debuting this fall. “Gigi ended up staying [in the design studio] from morning to night,” says Hilfiger. “I’ve been in this business for a long time, and Gigi and [fellow model] Kendall Jenner are not entitled — they’re the type of girls who will come up and say, ‘Thank you for putting me in your show.’ I think you have to hand it to [their mothers] Kris Jenner and Yolanda Hadid.”
And while his “Tommy Pier” show will feature a Ferris wheel, don’t expect the Americana-lover to hop aboard any rides. “I like to be in control in my situation,” he admits. “Being on one of those rides, you give that all up.”
