The emerging color story for spring 2010 seems to be black and white, Which feels minimalist and oppressively grim, but we’ll try not to read anything into that. Despite the predominance of this palette at Twinkle, there was some vibrancy, the kinds of pinks and greens and oranges you find in Starburst chews. (Especially cool were the pink-and-white ’80s Atari-print pants). Lots of swingy watercolor-print tunics worn as dresses; minidresses, both slouchy and fitted; baubles slung around necks, meant to look like hard candy. The Genius of designer Wenlan Chia: She makes all this seem evanescent girlishness grounded in sophistication.
