Vera Wang is an alchemist.

This designer is able to take simple bits of tulle, chiffon, silk and gauze and create liquid and magical looks that take your breath away.

In a Poiret frame of mind this season, Wang created modern pieces with vintage references. Easy, long and lean shifts, skirts and shorts were perfecly draped. The purple poppy shifts with spot smocking in the flowers’ centers were simply lovely. Her billowy tunics and dresses were full and shapely without being overwhelming.

Working with fabric in the way she does can sometimes result in clunky awkwardness, but not this season. And her jeweled and chainmail bibs? To. Die. For.

In full disclosure, I must admit that I’m an unabashed Vera Wang fan. Still, when she’s on, it’s universally recognizable, and for spring, she’s on.
