It was a “pleat”-za party today at Vera Wang. Working in black, charcoal, ivory, and dusty pink chiffons, Wang worked the accordion pleat in every which way: Adorned on tunic hems, attached as asymmetrical skirts on skinny pants, tiered in vertical panels on gowns, even done on short sleeves.

She started off more subtly with this theme, piling on leather jackets, quilted coats and oversized knits, most of which were embellished with detatchable fox fur hoods.

These utility pieces fell away and melted into a series of floaty gowns, all of which fell below the knee, but were finished with a sheer racer-back, high-low hems or a covered neck, all of which felt effortless and fresh. Wang, after all, has a knack for taking inspiration from the ’30s and giving it a modern twist.

Models emerged onto the runway behind a pair of golden-gilded gates, lending the vibe of English aristocracy that inspired this easy collection.
