Reality TV stars don’t have the best track record when it comes to “designing” and launching their own fashion labels — the clothes are usually awful, overpriced, or both. Whitney Port (from MTV’s “The Hills” and “The City”) joins the club for spring-summer 2010 with a bizarre collection constructed from very shiny fabrics. Though Port seemed to draw on her LA-style for references — smashing together modern girly dress silhouettes with vintage-inspired touches like contrasting lace paneling — she misses the mark by taking quirky too far. Pieces like gold lace leggings, sherbet sateen bow-waisted jumpsuits, and glittery tiered crinoline skirts veered off into the oddball stratosphere. Sure, Whitney Eve spring-summer 2010 is marginally more interesting than “Hills” alumna Lauren Conrad’s collection ever was, but it’s destined to quickly fade into oblivion.
