That’s one pricey plushy.
Balenciaga recently launched a line of stuffed animals, among other odds and ends, at the soon-to-be shuttered Parisian boutique Colette. And they’re selling like (very chic, expensive) hot cakes.
The toys start at $145 for “Koko” the monkey (currently the only one left in stock) or “Arko,” a Balenciaga-shirt-wearing polar bear.
Prices soar to around $190 for the more coveted animals, such as a giraffe named “Bendy” and a penguin named “Charly” — both of which sold out almost immediately.
Given the high demand and equally high price tag, we would venture to guess it’s fashionistas scooping these up as collectibles for themselves — not their toddlers. But, then again, who’s to say there aren’t fancy 2-year-olds simply drooling for luxury teething toys.
This capsule collection is part of a larger ongoing collaboration between Colette and key fashion designers that will continue until the shop closes at the end of the year.
