There’s uniform dressing, and then there’s Karl Lagerfeld.

The Chanel designer — some would say caricature — has had the same look for decades: An 18th-century white ponytail, a pair of enormous sunglasses (worn even indoors) and a super-skinny Dior Homme suit (to highlight his trim figure).

So the Chanel designer shocked fashionistas when he arrived at the Dior Homme show in Paris Sunday sporting a scruffy beard.

The facial hair — a salt-and-peppery hue that doesn’t quite match his snow-white mop — adds a surprising touch of slovenliness to Lagerfeld’s manicured appearance. But while many may think the unkempt beard makes the so-called “kaiser” look old, it actually humanizes him.

Though he’ll probably never fully give up his corpse-chic aesthetic and withering bon mots, we want more of this new, cuddly Karl, please!
